3 things to consider before purchasing the best stand mixer for cookie dough

When it comes to kitchen appliances, stand mixers are some of the most expensive ones you can buy. And while they aren't necessities, they do provide some very useful benefits since almost every baker knows how much work it is to combine dough by hand.

We chose these top models based on durability, capacity, power, and overall performance. We love all of these stand mixers but had to pick our top 3.

The Kitchenaid is a classic and comes with more than 10 attachments. This means it can do just about anything you need in the kitchen: julienne vegetables, grind meat, and even knead bread dough! The great thing about KitchenAid is that all their attachments are interchangeable, so if you ever upgrade to a bigger model, you can still use your smaller attachments.

The Cuisinart has the largest capacity of all the mixers we tested. If you have a large family or regularly bake for events, this mixer with its 7-quart bowl will be able to handle anything you throw at it! It is also extremely easy to use and clean which is a major plus.

Hamilton Beach has the largest capacity of all the mixers we tested. If you have a large family or regularly bake for events, this mixer with its 7-quart bowl will be able to handle anything you throw at it! It is also extremely easy to use and clean which is a major plus.

There are a few things you need to consider before investing in a stand mixer: what kind of attachments do you need? How powerful does your mixer need to be? What amount of capacity is necessary for the recipes you will be making? To help you figure out which one is best suited for your kitchen and baking needs, we put together a list of 3 things you should consider before buying.

1. Attachments

KitchenAid has so many different attachments that it's sometimes difficult to keep track of them all. In total, there are more than 10 different attachments that can be purchased separately (or included for free!) including a food processor, meat grinder, fruit and vegetable strainer, slicer/shredder, and grain mill.

The Cuisinart offers 4 different attachments: a meat grinder, citrus juicer, food processor, and pasta maker. Although it doesn't offer as many options as the KitchenAid does, we love that all of them are included with the mixer! If you ever want to upgrade your stand mixer, you'll be able to use all your Cuisinart attachments with whatever new model you purchase.

The Hamilton Beach only comes with the meat grinder and food pusher. If this is what you're looking for then we highly recommend it, however, if you're interested in multiple pieces like a slicer/shredder or grain mill, you'll probably want to go with either the KitchenAid or the Cuisinart.

2. Wattage

KitchenAid offers a range of mixers from 300 watts up to 450 watts. The more powerful your mixer, the faster it will be able to combine ingredients and knead bread. The KitchenAid Artisan has a power of 325 watts and the Pro-Line has a power of 450 watts, so if you're going to be doing a lot of heavy mixing we recommend going with the Pro-Line.

The Cuisinart offers mixers from 220 watts up to 550 watts. In our testing, we found that most stand mixers have a wattage of 350 watts, so the Cuisinart offers a nice range that can satisfy most people. We also discovered that a higher wattage doesn't always equal faster mixing times, which is why we recommend going with your standard 350-watt mixer for your everyday baking needs.

The Hamilton Beach has a wattage of 325 watts. This is the same as most other stand mixers, so it should provide high-quality results during use.

3. Capacity

KitchenAid offers a range of mixer bowl sizes from 5 quarts all the way up to 7 quarts which are perfect if you have a large family or regularly bake for a lot of people. If you plan on cooking smaller recipes or if you live alone, a mixer with a lower capacity may be more suitable for your needs.

The Cuisinart offers mixers with bowl capacities between 3 quarts and 7 quarts so there's something for everyone! We love this range because it means that you can pick between a small or large capacity depending on your cooking needs.

The Hamilton Beach has the largest bowl size of all the mixers we tested at 7 quarts. This will be perfect for families, but there are also models available with bowls that are 3.5 quarts and 5.5 quarts if you're looking for something smaller.
