8 Things to consider before purchasing the Best Mini Space Heater
Before purchasing your space heater, think about what exactly it is that you need, consider all your options and take into account any features that you may need as well as the accessories that you'll also be needed for your machine.
1. Where will you be using it?
One of the benefits of a space heater is that they're small and easily movable, but one thing you've got to consider is how and where you'll be moving the machine around.
Will your heater just stay in place most of the time, or will it need to move from room to room? If it's going to be moving around a lot, you might want to pick up an adjustable one so that the heat output can easily be manipulated.
2. How much power do you need?
Space heaters come in wattages ranging from 500 watts and up, and the higher the wattage, the more powerful your machine will be. The important thing to keep in mind when you're buying a space heater is that the wattage of your unit must be at least double whatever it is that you're trying to heat.
For example, say you have a 10 x 12 room and you need a heater capable of heating up to 220 square feet:
10' x 12' = 120 sq. ft.
120 sq. ft. x 2 = 240 watts
Therefore, you'll need a heater that has at least double that wattage—so something in the range of 500-1000 watts will do just fine for your space heater needs!
3. Is it safe?
One of the most important things that you want to be absolutely sure of before purchasing a space heater is that it's safe. Look for heaters with an automatic shut-off feature in case they're accidentally knocked down or tipped over, and make sure the machine won't overheat.
4. What features do you need?
Thermostats are always nice, but one feature that I recommend is the option to oscillate. This way, you can direct your machine's heat output to just certain areas of the room for maximum comfort.
If you're looking for something to use in a baby or pet's room, look for a quiet model with no exposed heating elements.
5. Where will it be stored?
If you're going to be storing your machine for any length of time, make sure that it's clean and free from dust. A quick way to tell if a space heater is in suitable working order is to look at the element: If there are no black spots or rust on it, then it should work just fine.
6. What's your budget?
Last but certainly not least, figure out how much you're willing to spend on a machine. Just keep in mind that if you want something more powerful, it's usually going to cost more money.
For me personally, the cheapest space heaters are usually sufficient for my needs. If I'm strapped for cash or just want a simpler, cheaper machine, I usually opt for a less expensive one.
7. Know the return policy!
If you've done all your research and know exactly what kind of model you want to purchase, make sure to check out the store's return policy before buying anything.
If there's no way that the heater will be able to be easily returned, then I'd personally recommend keeping your money in your wallet.
8. Get the best bang for your buck!
The most important thing to remember when buying anything is that you want to get what you pay for! If you spend $20 on a useless space heater, it might be tempting to think "Hey I spent barely anything on this!
I got a great deal!" But the reality is that you're now stuck with a useless machine for who knows how long. And you'll probably end up having to buy something different anyways!
